Kai Rennes is an artist living in Brussels and Barcelona. His works are (post-)phenomenological notes and reflections about different fields of human knowledge from science to arts and crafts , from philosophy and religion to art. What kind of experience and understanding do they represent? Is there anything in common? Is there an overall knowledge and wisdom? How are the accumulated culture reflected in the mirror of the modern living, the internet? The significant common feature for his works is the interaction of different human spheres of knowledge in the same work.
During the two months residence in Youkobo Art Space the artist will continue artistic work with different media. He will also study the Japanese arts and crafts tradition in general and especially many possibilities of photo printing on Washi paper, which gives the opportunity to more flexible use of the paper as a part of the artistic expression. Hopefully the residency results in some works of photography in large format.
