Renay Egami is a visual artist based in British Columbia, Canada. In her practice she employs a wide variety of materials that range from the impermanent to the enduring and in various combinations of sculpture, video, immersive installations, and book arts. Some recurring themes in her work has examined the experience of being caught in the space between two cultures, wounded cities, and the tensions between life and death. Renay has exhibited her work in Canada, US, and Japan. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Creative Studies at the University of British Columbia Okanagan.
During her residency at Youkobo Art Space she will be engaged in process-based research activity that includes learning traditional crafting skills and material studies. This is the preliminary groundwork that will provide a foundation on which to build upon and evolve the trajectory of her creative practice into new territories.
