Born in Paris in 1992, Jean-Baptiste Lagadec is a french painter who graduated from Central Saint Martin’s School of Art in 2016. Coming from a digital practice, Jean-Baptiste playfully seeks alternatives to the screen, responding to certain codes of the digital conception of images, with tangible means, in an effort towards an empirical actualization of this new cultural in heritage within the timeless history of painting. He believes the subject and the object of the painting practice are one; tableaux tell or hide the history of their making, inviting the viewer to a formal investigation of their surface. Jean-Baptiste seeks to widen the scope of his pictorial research by surveying the materialistic conditions of emergence of the pictorial gesture.
