City Dwellers:Urbanites of Tokyo PJ6581 part 3

Ade Putra Safar & Khairullah Rahim [Singapore]

2013.09.18 - 2013.09.22

Placing itself as the capital of Japan and the largest metropolitan in the world, Tokyo has been described as one of the three "command centres" for the world economy, along with New York City and London. With the population estimated to exceed 13million, it is also one of the most densely populated prefectures in Japan.

City Dwellers: Urbanites of Tokyo is an ongoing research project by two young artists from Singapore. Be it Ade Putra’s complex urge for order within clutter, or a Khairullah Rahim’s personal certain group of marginalized community, both artists share similar yet different concerns apropos of the urbanites in their respective practice in art making. Through critical research and observations during their stay, both artists create artworks in response to the nature, and personality of Tokyo, in particular, its inhabitants. The exhibition will present past and new artworks across a variety of medium.
