‘Vibrating in Unison’
Tomoko Kawai [JAPAN]2013.11.22 - 2013.12.01
She creates photographic works that emphasize a fuzzy reality often unnoticed in the everyday happenings of modern society. Within modern society, the physical things that window-dress true reality are an overflow. We try to confirm our visible reality with our experience, knowledge and captive unconscious, but everyday information intervenes. If déjà vu is not a slip of memory, but is instead a phenomenon generated when we vibrate in unison with a parallel universe, our fixed ideas and awareness are shaken by tuning into that vibration. The hypothetical "if" betrays the "would be" assumption, exploring the loss of a trusting visual relationship with viewers. That is, there is no proof that reality is real, but when we vibrate in unison with a parallel universe, friction and doubt become the only ways to connect with reality.
